The lever is the mechanical link that automatically opens the tailgate lock hooks when tipping. It is part of the system that allows unloading without leaving the cab.

Inside the lever are bolts and pins numbered 00009240286 and 00009240287. With play in the lever, the hooks do not open at the same time and the tailgate jams.
