The outrigger cylinder lowers and raises the legs that hold the vehicle during crane operation. It is a safety-critical element — the crane must not be used if the outrigger does not hold its position.

If an outrigger gives way under load or rises on its own, the cause is most often worn seals or a faulty shut-off valve. Operating in that condition is dangerous.
