The block valve is a safety element that locks the cylinder in its current position if a hose bursts or pressure is lost. Without it, a raised tipper body would fall freely.

The older 503/58 type has been discontinued and replaced by this one, 503/63 – the connections and installation dimensions are matched, so replacement is direct.
